Jim and Sandy Young had been together for almost 10 years when they discovered the Other Mothers store near their home in Tacoma. Sandy frequented the store buying merchandise for many nieces and nephews, as well as Jim & Sandy’s 3 year old granddaughter, Allyssa.
Coincidentally, Sandy’s sister began working at the store. Sandy was extremely impressed with the quality of the merchandise and the reasonable pricing and remained a loyal customer.
In the Spring of 2001 the owners announced they would be selling the store. Their children were at the age that they needed more attention, and they made the decision to sell. They had owned and operated the store in the same location since 1996.
Jim & Sandy inquired about the sale and actually purchased the store on June 1, 2001. They decided to move the store simultaneously with the purchase to its new (current) location at 6409 6th Ave with twice the square footage.
Owning and operating a children’s and maternity resale store for the past five years has presented many challenges. The events of 9-11-2001 dramatically affected our store, as it did most of the retail community and the entire country. Although it was difficult at times, Jim & Sandy were determined to remain in business. Many of the stores loyal/repeat customers constantly reinforced the fact that our store was a stable and valuable business that met many important needs.
There is a certain amount of joy and satisfaction associated with customer after customer commenting on how much they appreciate our store. They comment on how fresh and clean the store is, and how the quality and pricing of the merchandise is the best in the area. Purchasing is conducted by our friendly and knowledgeable associates with fairness, openness, and respect. Many grandparents, young couples and single mothers have told the staff that they didn’t know how they would have gotten by, at times, without our store.
Our franchise contract with the Other Mothers Corporation subsequently expired in April of 2006. We consistently demonstrated our loyalty, commitment, and reliability to the franchise owners and we will be forever grateful for their assistance and commitment to our business being successful. As a result, we have decided to remain in the children's and maternity resale business under the new name of "KIDZ KABOODLE". You will notice virtually no change to the staff, store policies, quality products, great pricing, or store hours. You should notice some change to the store signage and interior decor.
Kidz Kaboodle will continue to offer a wide selection of new and gently used children's and maternity clothing, baby furniture, safety items, strollers, car seats, bassinets, swings, toys and much, much more. Earn store credit instantly toward the purchase of ANYTHING in our store, or receive cash, when exchanging items as your children outgrow them. People want to keep their growing children in quality clothing that looks great without having to pay a high price for new clothes. We strive to meet that demand.
Our customers love being able to immediately get either exchange credit or cash for items their children have outgrown. Our Store, with its distinctive decor, has the look and feel of upscale stores that carry new clothing, but don't have "new" store prices. It is clean, bright, and family owned.
